A comparison between DMCC, IFZA and RAKEZ

Choosing a free zone in the UAE is less about finding the “best” one and more about finding the right one for how your business actually operates. DMCC, IFZA, and RAKEZ each have different costs, different license types, and different advantages. Here is what separates them.

DMCC

DMCC sits in Dubai’s Jumeirah Lakes Towers and is built around commodities, trading, and professional services. It is the largest free zone in the UAE by number of registered companies — over 22,000 businesses operate from it. The address carries weight if you work in commodities, crypto, or finance. License costs run higher than most other free zones, starting around AED 20,000 and going up depending on your activity. If you need to meet clients in Dubai and want a recognizable registered address, DMCC makes sense.

The free zone question is straightforward once you know what your business actually needs. The paperwork after that is where people get stuck.

IFZA

IFZA is based in Dubai Silicon Oasis and is the most popular choice for cost-conscious founders right now. A basic license starts around AED 12,500, and you can register multiple business activities under a single license — something DMCC does not allow as freely. It suits consultants, freelancers, e-commerce operators, and service businesses who want a Dubai address without the premium price. Visa allocations are tied to office space, but a flexi-desk arrangement gets you started.

RAKEZ

RAKEZ is in Ras Al Khaimah, about an hour from Dubai. It is the lowest-cost option of the three, with licenses starting under AED 10,000. It works well for manufacturing, industrial operations, and businesses that need physical warehouse or production space at rates you simply cannot find in Dubai. If your business does not depend on a Dubai address and you want to put money into operations rather than registration fees, RAKEZ is worth a serious look.

So which one?

DMCC if your business is in trading, commodities, or finance and the address matters to your clients. IFZA if you want a Dubai free zone at a reasonable cost with flexible activity options. RAKEZ if cost is the first consideration and you do not need to be in Dubai.

The free zone is one decision. What comes after — visas, renewals, bank account setup, compliance — is where most founders run into delays. Basecamp handles all of it.
